The Problems Neck Lifts Solve
1. Turkey Wattle or Neck Bands
With weak or loose neck muscles, women and men may develop the "turkey wattle" or appearance of neck "bands."
Platysmaplasty surgery is often recommended to resolve this. Incisions are made under the chin or behind the ears to access the platysma (neck muscle) so that it can be manipulated. That sometimes means actually removing some muscle or the surgeon may use sutures to hold the tissue in position.
There are now less invasive procedures, where the surgeon makes smaller incisions and uses an endoscope (tiny camera in a thin tube) to complete the surgery.
The procedure can be performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia.
2. Excess Fat
A lifetime of unhealthy eating and limited exercise can leave fat deposits around the body and the neck is a very susceptible area for these deposits. A plastic surgeon can make a small incision below the chin and remove this excess fat using liposuction.
Do you want to trick people into thinking you've lost a lot of weight? You might want to consider a neck lift. Oftentimes, people won't even notice that your neck muscles, fat or skin has been surgically altered if you have a neck lift.

Reasons why neck lifts are so popular:
- Very often the neck ages before the face.
- If you've lost a significant amount of weight, the neck may take time to catch up.
- Many people are genetically predisposed to develop excess skin or fat on their neck.
